"Remember you must die"

Memento mori is an enduring idea that's seen across history. It has always been thick with symbolism but the bare skull reminding you that death will come has been a persevering idea. This skull with wings pendant is based heavily after that very symbolism seen through the 17th and 18th century. Often placed on gravestones it represented the physical decay of the human vessel, and the quick ascent of the soul to a better place. But as these symbols fell from fashion the skull was replaced with cherubs and angels to provide a more comforting image for the living and grieving.

This pendant is hand made here in Glasgow Scotland, starting it's life as sheet metal I hand cut all the outlines and solder them together. This is one of my first pieces to incorporate hand push engraving. with the detailing in the skull and wings all hand engraved. At finishing it gets fully oxidised to really emphasis those lines and given my favourite frosted finish. Each piece is hand made to order, and will arrived fully hallmarked with a chain length of your choice, gift box and polishing cloth.
